Question of the week no. 11: What would it mean for Europe, if Greece left the the eurozone?

Last week’s informal EU summit in Brussels was overshadowed by speculations about the Greek exit from the Euro. What would it mean for Europe, if Greece left the the eurozone?

21. – Leavers...

It would mewan that the EU would have a massive burden off their shoulders and I also believe that it would release Greece of much pressure and let them deal with it by themselves... Burt I am currently unsure wether they would be able to do such a large task.

20. – My views of Greece leaving the Eurozone...

My views of Greece leaving the Eurozone is that Greece may have many debts, but I can guarantee that once they have left the Eurozone that they would be free, because when they were in the Eurozone I believe that the (EU) European Union had put pressure on Greece by clearing their debts before it got any worse.

So now Greece have left the Euro they can now concerntrate on other issues instead

19. – €urgeddon

After reading the report crudely named "After €urogeddon" I unpicked points which from my point of view are the most likely to happen.
One the biggest problems facing Greece leaving the euro will be the domino effect and contagion. With the departure of one country weaker euro countries will follow and trigger breakdowns in banks and the crash of the euro and a deposit rush finding banks o ➔ Show full article …

18. – Greece to leave the Eurozone?

Having recently witnessed the results of the Greek election, I am pleased that the majority of Greek citizens voted for the party who are committed to sticking with the Euro and continue with the austerity measures already imposed upon the country.

I feel that the countries who signed up to the Euro have made a commitment to eachother, and that commitment shouldn’t come to an end just because ➔ Show full article …

What a lack of solidarity !! When you belong to a communauty, it’s for the best moment and the worst, it’s like a wedding ! Greece have signed the Europe constitution, so it is a member of Europe, we have to help this country, it’s our duty. We have already tried and we see the result, but we may have taken the wrong solution. The question deserve reflection.

5. – Will Greek exporters gain from leaving the eurozone?

Greece doesn’t have a huge export market. They just export agricultural products. On the other hand that we are exporting are services and tourism. Most of the businesses in Greece, they have loans in euros. So if Greece is to leave the eurozone, Greek loans will still be denominated in euros. It means that many Greek companies will go bankrupt. 4.

Hi Olympe, reading your comment I would like to emphasize that we do not speak about leaving EU but the eurozone. That is a difference of two letters (EU - EURO) but I really do not want to discuss what it would mean for Europe if Greece leaves the EU. So far...
